Xvid AVIs Wont Play Please Help

I have downloaded 7 different videos that supposibly use the Xvid codec. None of them would play, so I downloaded about 3 different xvid codecs. They still wouldnt play, so thinking it may be my comp I did a complete reformat. I have now installed
Divx 5.11 and XviD-04102002-1 , and it will still NOT PLAY.

When I try to view it in media player I get this error:
Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported. (Error=80040265)

It cant be that they are corrupt, they are from like 3 different places.

Is there any codec/filter Im forgetting to install? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated, I've tried everything.

Here is a screenshot of what gspot says

that file looks like it's fake.it doesn't show that it's xvid because the 4cc is blank on that shot so it obviously is fake.

Do ALL 7 files display the same information when opened in GSpot?

Try loading the file(s) in Virtualdub and, where possible, post the File Information (of one of them) here.

              Cheers.

omg im having the same problem - but my situation is different it worked for me but then i attempted to code the XViD into a DVD and the XViD was working perfect up untill this point. when i got my DVD i was watching it and it was only 50% of the movie so i knew the program i had used was no good (Avi2Dvd) so i uninstalled the software and the things that installed with it like AviSynth bad move on my part now no .avi files work but .mpeg and .wmv work perfect but anyways i uninstalled all codecs i had and re-installed them but no luck i cant seem to fix this, any1 know wats wrong ? sorry if the grammar is poor which it probably is with runon sentences i wrote this in a hurry
