Which is that one PERFECT CODEC I AM LOOKING FOR??

Hello there, new to this forum but not new to video...been there seen it, tried it, done it.

I need to upgrade to that one perfect codec that gives me superb quality as found in original DVD and if possible even better, maximum is High Definition Video.

I make 3D movies and animations and use resolutions of 720x416 up to 1920x1088 (higdef).

I used to use DIVX PRO 5.02 but even at bitrates of 6000 kbs it wil still stain, just as XviD does and cheap MPEG1 or 2 will too.

All I need is:

I need to comply to Divx, xvid or MPEG1 or MPEG2 standard.
I need to use it in AVI file format (openDML, over 2 gig.)
I need it top be used as a codec would.
I need supercrisp video using bitrates of 3500 up to 10.000 kbs
I need two pass encoding (VBR is magic)
I need full control of the filesize
I need full control over I, P and B frames

Internet crawls with high quality Mpeg encoders, all of them worse than you´ve ever seen.

Who could help me out here providing just that bit of info I need?

TMPGEnc and encode into a high bitrate MPEG2

To be more exact, use "TMPGEncPlus" - which will allow processing of high definition resolutions (The freeware version, known as "TMPGEnc", is far more limited as to maximum resolution...)

just like you, im new to this forum, but not video editing. try out the vp6 video codec from http://www.on2.com./vp6.php3. i've had some incredibly good results from it (at 525kbps and 700x350 it has unmatched picture quality). it does support 2-pass, but i don't know of a program that will process an avi with 2-pass vbr.

I will be checking Tempgenc again..it was ages since I last used it, as far as i recall it is rather restricted to a few standards like VCD and SVCD / DVD..anyway Thanks!!

I believe VBR just takes special attention when encoding, playback of VBR -anything- (MP3..DIVX, MPEG) is just as standard as, yeah..as...well -very normal. all you need is any program that supports the windows codec plugins and run it twice.

i´ve just tried the VP6 codec and did several tests, its quite good but does not exceed the DivX 5.02 Pro Codec´s quality, i´m sorry..

Back to the drawing board, but first I´ll still try Tempgenc plus

Do you have tried the mainconcept MPEG encoder?
they have a patented concept

If you're looking for a decent encoder, you could try Canopus' acclaimed ProCoder software.
It's a tad pricey but the results are stunning!

The VP6 codec is not worth downloading, i have used it and it has no detail whatsoever. Anyone who is pleased with that codec must be very easy going that's all i can say.

You're looking for Windows Media Video/Audio 9 codec. Best quality. Also, I have just realized that you're able to encode into WM9 using WindowsMe. I used to think you can only do this in XP.

from my limited experience (TMPGEnc, Dr. Divx, WM9) I've seen WM9 to be near DVD quality at 1Mb+ video rates, unless you have alot of action, then it needs a boost to 1.25Mb-1.5Mb or so. The only thing I can see from the original DVD is the colors get a *little* washed out at those bitrates. You can't really tell without viewing them side-by-side, though. It gets more pronounced with lower bitrates, I guess it just reduces the pallete used to get better framerates/crispness at lower bitrates. (?) Other than that, though it's GOOD.

what are you doing and how do you plan to transport a 6-8Mb bitrate file?
