the best codec for simpons episodes

ive been recording simpons & family guy episodes for a long time now. i usually record into an uncompressed avi, then encode using dr divx 1.0.3, because many people have told me that encoding straight of the card, will make the quality poorer.

newayz i have been impressed with divx 5.0.5, but i have seen people use:
mpeg (around 220megs)
and
xvid (140megs0.

im not sure which codec is the best for animated videos.

Could someone give me some advice.

Well i'm impressed with the 5.0.5, correct me if i'm wrong but do you use 1 pass mode because in 1 pass mode the video does'nt get analysed and basically the encoder is just blindingly putting bitrate where it think's instead of knowing. But anyway that's my opinion 5.0.5 i like very much.
