    No Video/Sound For Avi Video

The playback for my avi video is just a black screen and silence. All other videos files work and even some other avi videos. I uninstalled all my codec packs and installed only FFDSHOW and unchecked the WMV codec.

Still didn't work so I loaded it into GSPOT. It says i have the video and audio codecs installed but it was unable to render. It doesn't seem to be a fake file because i previewed it in VirtualDub and it worked.

So does anyone know whats wrong?

Which is it? Do you have ONLY the FFDShow Filter installed, or do you have the audio and video codecs noted by GSpot?

    1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

The only codec pack i have installed is FFDSHOW.
I'm pretty sure i cleaned out all my old codecs.

        reinstall the codecs:

go download and install the xvid codec at http://ahmed.nilegates.com/files/XviD-04102002-1.exe (it's one that is commonly used), and the video should now.

get the Lame acm mp3 codec here http://www.softpedia.com/public/scri...ero/11-1-2-70/ . extract all files, right click on the LameACM.inf file, select install. if you get any warnings, select continue anyway. that should hopefully correct the sound in it.

if any other problems, post away.

I've installed both XVID and Lame but theres no change in the video. I tried playing it in PowerDVD and it doesn't even show a black screen just the logo.

Heres a updated screenshot of Gspot though.

            1) Load the .AVI file (DivX-compressed or otherwise) into the most recent version of either VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod

            2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"

            3) Select "Check for errors"

            4) Select "Mask bad frames"

            5) Save with a new filename

Heres what I've done so far:
                - Uninstalled all codecs except Mircosoft ones using Tsunami's Codec Sniper
                - Installed Nimo Codec Pack 5 Build 9 (checking and unchecking codecs mentioned here: http://www.codec-download.com/article.php?sid=80)
                - Installed FFDSHOW
                - Ran VirtualDub, checked for Mask Bad Frames and saved as new filename.
                - Ran DivFix, checked for errors and rebuilt index. (I have no idea what the hell the program is for though )

The video is still the same.I doubt the video file is the one causing errors since i have another avi video with the same problems.

Gsport says that the 3ivx D4 Video Decoder is misconfigured. And the render error is "DirectShow was unable to render file. Following error reported: 0x80040265: VFW_E_UNSUPPORTED STREAM - Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported."
I don't know how to fix those errors.

Thanks to all those trying to help me.
