All of my AVIs quit working..

Recently I found out that I can no longer play AVIs on my computer. They used to play fine several months ago. The files play ok if copied to another computer.

Windows Media Player said the format wasn't supported - so I downloaded the lastest version, WMP 9. Still no go. I looked at one file with a utility to find out the codec used = Intel Indeo 5.0. I downloaded and reinstalled that - but no go. I examined other AVIs and found a variety of codecs. None will play. All return error "0xC00D1199: Cannot play the file" on WMP 9. MPGs play ok.

I really don't know much about codecs. Any suggestions?

    O/S: Win 2000 Pro.

you could uninstall your codecs ie divx, xvid then reinstall them. this has worked for me in the pass. use avicodec or gspot to see if your system supports the file/s. also FFDShow is a good program with alot of settings for playback and it;s free.

Uhmm, how do you uninstall a codec? Is there a utility that will uninstall all of them at once?

Click here for a screenshot from GSpot running on my computer.

I noticed from your screenshot, that you have 3 roxio .dll files in there. This might be causing problems. Do you have Easy CD Creator installed?

I noticed in your screenshot that divx and xvid (both mpeg4 codecs) are not installed. These two are the most common avi (mpeg4) codecs. d/l and install these two codecs. This is what I use. In Gspot click on render and this will instruct your OS to play the file and will give you additional info. Let us know of your results.
