DivX hardware player?

Has anyone created a player (hardware) which can play DivX movies.

Essentially, I'm looking for a DVD player with a DivX codec.

But what I would really like to have is a hardware player which gets the codec from the disc itself.

By attaching the codec to the disc in some way the player can simply load the required codec and play the movie.

I'm just really tired of doing conversions all the time. There must be a better way!!.

Any thoughts?

There are lots of projects for stand-alone-divX-players in the web, but they all are kind of normal computers with win or linux and a software-player.

Why don't you do it? Simply copy the codec to the disk and make an autorun which installs the codec when you insert the cd.

I was really looking for the DivX equivalent of a DVD player.

But more than that I am looking for a standalone unit which has the ability to take any disc with video files.

The problem is no such hardware seems to exists; a hardware player with no codec but with the ability to DYNAMICALLY load a codec from disc.

If the codec was somehow attached to the video file then the player could load the codec and play the movie.

This does not mean install the codec in permanent storage (ie hard drive,etc).

As for my comment on conversions, I'm has some DivX videos that must be convert to MPEG 1 (VCD) or MPEG 2 (DVD) in order to play them in a standard DVD player. This works ok but is time consuming. I'm sure many others are running into the same issue.

I've read many posts from so many people looking to convert files to various formats. If there was a player that didn't care about the required codec because the codec was ALWAYS included with the video file then the player could be used universally.

I'm looking for comments and suggestions

There is one way that may work, I think I read something about it that works with linux. The way is that you make a linux-boot-cd that includes an simple linux-os with installed codec, the movie and a video-player. If it is done right, you can insert the cd, start the pc (or pc in a stand-alone-case) and wait until the movie starts.
