    TMPGEnc DVD Aurthor???

    Hi.

I am not sure if this is the right place to put this, if it's not let me know and i will delete it?

I am still trying to get to grips with this TMPGEnc DVD Aurthor. When I rip the movie with shrink and import into TMPGE and make up menus etc then go to output I am getting the following.

(The combined bitrate of the clip exceeds the upper limit for a standard DVD. the current bitrate is video; 9800bps,audio, combined: 10248kbps.the combined video and audio bitrate can be no more than 9.848mbps(9848kbps.)

I do not understand what it’s on about, can anyone explain this to me why it will not put it on a DVD as it well under the 4.7. what is it that I need to do to get it on a disc? And how do I get this "Bitrate" down to the correct size. I have read the help files but cant find anything regarding the problem I am having?

Please note I am new to all this.

    Thanks again for any help..

I assume you are importing an entire (or segment) of a DVD using "Re-author" from DVDShrink. If you are getting this type of error, first try to "De-multiplex" and then "Multiplex" the VOB file(s) into a DVD compliant mpeg 2 in the regular TMPGEnc encoding program–different from TMPGEnc DVD Author. If that fails, you might have to re-encode the file(s) with the "Project Wizard Templates" to ensure that the video and audio bitrate of your Mpeg 2 file is DVD compatible. Use the "DVD" template (NTSC or PAL) to accomplish that. Also, if using DVDShrink to "Backup" or "Re-author", you might want to "merge" the main VOB files together first before opening in TMPGEnc.

      Hi ormonde.

Thanks for helping me out with this one. I have both TMPGEnc programs.
I took one file from the VIDEO_TS folder called VTS_01_1 and put it into TMPGEnc when finished it was saved to another folder on my desktop. I burned it to disc but it had no sound.. Is there a guide that you know of dealing with this so I can study it?

"I took one file from the VIDEO_TS folder called VTS_01_1 and put it into TMPGEnc"

How many VOB files do you have total? Please list them. Also, in TMPGEnc, are you trying to re-encode the VOB into an Mpeg 2?

"I burned it to disc but it had no sound"

You can't just burn an mpeg that was created with TMPGEnc and expect it to function as a normal DVD. The file(s) have to be "Authored" into a DVD structure. (.IFO, .BUP, .VOB) the files with these extensions "MUST" reside inside a folder called: VIDEO_TS (ALL CAPS)

"Is there a guide that you know of dealing with this so I can study it?"

        I don't know of one.

          Hello ormonde

          I have two folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. In the video folder are all the files that shrinks has ripped ready for burning to DVD, they are as follows;

          (VIDEO_TS BUP file)
          (VIDEO_TS DVD navigation file)
          (VTS_01_0.BUP)
          (VTS_01_0) BUP navigation file)
          (VTS_01_1 VOB file)
          (VTS_01_2 VOB file)
          (VTS_01_3 VOB file)
          (VTS_01_4 VOB file)

What I am trying to do is run it through TMPGEnc so as to have my own DVD with menus etc..

Do I need to reencode to get round (The combined bitrate of the clip exceeds the upper limit for a standard DVD. the current bitrate is video; 9800bps,audio, combined: 10248kbps.the combined video and audio bitrate can be no more than 9.848mbps(9848kbps.) ? and how?

I very much appreciate your help..

          Many Thanks.

I'm not sure why you're getting the bitrate warning. But instead of trying to open one of the VTS files, click 'Add Video' and navigate to your VIDEO_TS folder.

I've done this quite a few times with TMPGEnc DVD Author and DVDs shrunk with Shrink, and it's always worked perfectly.

First of all, did you apply any compression when you did this backup in DVDShrink? If this answer is yes, then I'd advise you to back it up again without using compression.

If the backup is a straight backup with no compression, then "merge" the 4 VOB files together as 1 file. (Start with VTS_01_1 "NOT" VTS_01_0). Rename the newly merged file "VTS_01_1". MOVE the original 4 VOBs to another location on your HD. (Don't DELETE!). Open the merged "VTS_01_1" file in TMPGEnc (the regular program) and encode using the "Project Wizard" under "File". Use the DVD template (NTSC or PAL) to create a DVD compliant Mpeg 2 file. Then go to "TMPGEnc DVD Author" > Create New Project > Add File and load your newly created Mpeg 2 file.

Did you try and "Add DVD Video" in TMPGEnc DVD Author as digidragon suggested? This method does work, but not all the time.

                  If you look carefully, when "TMPGEnc DVD Author" generates this informational note, it gives you the option to "Ignore". Feel free to do so, as I have dozens of times - and you'll generate a perfectly fine DVD ;>}

                    Hello Digidragon..

Thanks, I tried that but it showed the folder as empty. I then hit the select all files and they showed up, but could not import them in, in effect it did not work?

                    Hi ormonde.

“ You said; If the backup is a straight backup with no compression, then "merge" the 4 VOB files together as 1 file”. Do I do this merge within TMPGEnc? And do I have to rename with something like VTS_22 or whatever? Will the sound be there too? As you will have gathered by now I really am new to this TMPGEnc ! I will try this..

Your help and advice is very much appreciated..

                    Hi setarip.

Somehow I new that you would come to my aid and throw me another lifeline of no-nonsense easy to understand valuable advice; I did note that it gave me this warning that’s when I backed off and came here looking for help..I will try it again and see it through this time..

As always setarip, a big thanks.

I would first try to do what setarip suggested and ignore the error and try a test output. This will save an enormous amount of time. If that does not work, merge the VOB files with a free program called "VOBMerge". It is pretty fast. You would name it "VTS_01_1" or whatever is the numerical sequence of your title set is. (could be VTS_02_1). Just follow what I laid out in my 3rd post.
