MPG files running slow on WMP8

When I launch a mpg media file on windows mediaplayer its freezing on some frames and then jumping several frames to go on... and then jumping frames again etc...
    The sound is fine...

I dont know where it came from since i never had this problem before... and its seems there is no codecs for mpgs...

The only special thing i have is a Matrox RTX100 editing card...

The thing is not happening running with winamp...

    Thank you for your help...

The world of codecs is a black art I've not sufficient skills in,
suffice to say, many people report freezing and jumping with WMP and mpgs.
If the editing card is a recent addition, did it come bundled with PowerDVD or WinDVD?
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

Try using the older, more reliable, lower overhead Windows Media Player v.6.4.

        To install:

        Desktop>>Start>>Run then type MPLAYER2.EXE
