First and foremost, you must understand that the formats of the videos (videostreams and audisotreams) must be IDENTICAL...

Joining two .AVIs can be accomplished in VirtualDub (or any of its variants) by simply:

    1) Loading the first file and then, from the "File" dropdown menu selecting "Append .AVI segment" and loading the second file.

    2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy"

    3) Save with a new filename

If the 2 avi's are whitout "NON WANTED FRAMES"

      then use virtualdub.

If ya like to cut and paste a little, add music blablabla.
Then you can use PREMIERE PRO 7.0 for that, MPEG , AVI whatever.
Cut paste them till ya like the end result, and export it as a uncompressed .AVI or some other format, so you can edit it again or burn it on DVD.

I personal do not compress my DV movies, because i wane keep the BEST quality and uncompressed movie's are faster then compressed.
BUT VERY BIG...... 23GB for 1 hour.
      720x576 pal

      just my 2 cents.
