    wmv with flaskmpeg

    I just started trying to use the wmv codec, in the past I used divx, wmv seems to make MUCH better one cd rips, the only problem is my audio keeps getting out of sync, it's unclear whether it is a fixed amount, I also cannot find sofware to alter the audio sync after the file has been converted, any ideas?

    Have you checked to make certain that the "audio skew" is set to -0- when you select "Audio" under "Output Format Options"? If it is, and this results in out-of-synch files, try adjusting the skew.

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      ok, new problem

      I think I figured out why the audio was so out of sync, the audio skew control is measured in frames, the video I'm trying to encode is 23.97 fps, but is simulated 29.97, flask detects 23.97, but whenever I try to encode in any frame rate except 29.97 I get an error message of symbols, is there some fix out there? I've already tried different combinations of the reconstruct and deinterlace options to no avail. By the way thanks for the quick response on my last question.

        My pleasure ;>}

        "whenever I try to encode in any frame rate except 29.97 I get an error message of symbols"

        I get no such error (witha 23.976/29.970 DVD rip) when using the WMV plugin with Flask v.0.594PX3. Which codec are you using, and at what settings?

        By the way, I've consistently achieved what i believe to be rather high quality one-CD conversions using old reliable DivX v.3.11alpha (using Fast Motion at 910 and 100% "Crispness") and the just-as-reliable AVI .0.58 plugin for Flask v.0.594PX3. I am a firm believer that sometimes "newer ain't necessarily better" ;>}

          sorryoff topic

          I haven't thrown in the towel yet with wmv but I was wondering about your encoding settings for divx, you use fast motion instead of slow, I heard that fast was bad, is it better, and whats the deal with smoothness vs crispness?

              With WMV I can get perfect quality 2 hour DVD onto 1 CD with Flask Mpeg XiS Expert V2. It is a bit trial and error but I've come up with a formula which works out more or less an exact final WMV size.

              x
              ---
              y X 133.33333333333 = z

              x = Size of file you want in Meg's

              y = Length of the DVD movie in Minutes

              z = Total bitrate (video + audio bitrates) in K bits/second

                    wm8

                    i have no option to use anything other than wm8.
                    i must admit divx is slitly better at lower bitrates, but wm8 is a very user friendly codec. and as for encoders. i use flaskmpeg 6. it does have more bugs, but gives you the capabilities to work around corrupted vobs. i also noticed that every encode i have ever done is only in sync under 25 fps. talk about a wierd thing. the symbols for your errors are due to flask has not been updated with complete english translation. i would check the forum for flask. it is located in delphi forums you can link off of the flask webpage

                    they are not as informative or active as this or other video forums.
                    but they have designated flask users with little treasures
