Problems in Black and White with SVHS

Could anybody give me some advice on why when i connect a SVHS lead to my capture card it plays back in black and white using a scart to SVHS, and a SVHS to SVHS lead.
The composite video lead works fine but I am lead to believe that the SVHS connection is better quality.
    Could anyone advise.
    Thanks

      Hi,
There could be two resons for this.

      1) Your video recorder is not a s-vhs one. If it is not you'll just get a black and white signal.

      2) if your vcr is a s-vhs one you have to go through the on screen menus and select that you wish to outphut s-vhs on scart and from which socket L1 L2 L3 etc.
