Problem with sound

I use Windows XP and MediaPlayer 8, I have DivX3.11 Alpha installed.
When audio is in format MPEG-layer 3, there is no sound. Why is this?
Before I used Windows ME and had no troubles.

Try downloading and installing the Radium MP3 audio codec. Ther have been several postings indicating that XP has a "nasty habit" of replacing already installed MP3 codecs with its own, less useable version.
