End of avi corrupt on cd, cant copy

Hi,

I have a div movie, and when I try to play it media player keeps on thinking it is of different length thatn before, but never the full movie. there is a scratch at the end of the movie. Now i try to copy the movie across to my hard drive, and it getes to 99%, 5 secs remaining and then fails. Firstly, how does avi file format owrk, if i do manage to just get the 99% of the file of, does that mean im probably just missing trailers, or is there file info stored at the ned. Also, any ideas how to copy the file from the cd partially.

If you can, in fact, copy the first portion of the DivX-format .AVI video, it will be playable...
