    No audio when i burn

Alright, well before I begin i would just like to say that I am a newbie to the DVD burning/ripping world. I recently got a DVD player, the Sony DVD RW DW-U14A, it works amazing well for burning data CDs and DVDs copying CDs making audio CD's... but i recently started trying to back up my DVD collection, so i have a program that finds the serial keys for me, and puts the .VOB files on my hard drive... i then go to burn these as a DVD using Roxio easy CD and DVD creator and every time i go to put any of the .VOB files on the project it tells me that the .VOB files contain audio in AC3 format, which is not natively supported by the DVD Builder and that if i modify these files after adding them to my project the audio will be replaced by silence. Well that seemed all fine and good, i wasn't gunna trim or add transitions, or anything to any of the .vob's anyway... so i go to burn them, and Roxio encodes the .vob files to DVD format... which also i am a little unclear on to why it has to encode a .vob, but anyway it encodes it and then burns the DVD. Unfortunately the DVD then has all the video but none of the sound. I tried burning the .vob files in the DVD builder section, and then i tried just creating a data disk... there is sound in the data disk but it will only play on my DVD drive on my computer not on the player in my living room. So then i thought maybe if i just merge all the seperate .vob files into one so there wouldn't need to be separate .vob files for it to put together maybe it would work.... this also failed... so i guess i need some help, i aslo have nero version 6.0 ultra edition... but when i go to burn the DVD it says i need .ifo files and... some other file that i don't have because i don't know how to create them using Nero... please advise... thanks.

I would strongly suggest that use download and use DVD Shrink to back up your DVD collection. The program is fairly simple to use, and best of all, it's free. The greatest thing about DVD Shrink is that it will compress the size of a commercial based DVD (with little or no visual quality loss) so that it will fit on a single DVD (r, rw) recordable disk. It will also remove any inherent copy protection on the disk as well as make your copy region free. See the following link for more on DVD Shrink:

DVD Shrink is a free and user-friendly dvd backup tool, enabling you to make backup copies of your DVDs to a single DVD±R/RW or Dual-Layer DVD+R. DVDs too big to fit on a DVD±R can be edited and/or compressed. DVDShrink.info does not condone the copying of DVDs in countries where it is illegal.

You won't be able to use Nero if Roxio is installed. You will have to choose which of the two you like, and uninstall the one you don't use. There have been known conflicts with running Nero and Roxio simultaneously. See the aforementioned DVD Shrink link for an interactive guide as to how to use Nero.

Thanks, the DVD Shrink program is working amazingly well. I uninstalled Roxio 6, and am only using Nero now, and everything is working great. Thank you again.
