Just some useful proves that would make NTFS your ideal file format.

Remember this:
NTFS can see FAT32 but not vice versa.

Ummmm out of interest, have you even attempted to use the "zoom" button on your DVD player? It'll crop out the widescreen bits and fit it into your 4:3 TV in realtime - no need to worry about processing and re-encoding the movie just to achieve the same effect.

Yes, I have tried the option's selection on my players, but this is more of a bobby that I want to apply to my back ups.

Zoom is different and sometimes it just decreases quality.
I would suggest panscan instead but eventally cropping and then encoding will result in better results.he sad thing is that it doesn't always work.

Back up and running under NTFS...a little sluggish, but I'll evenually get things ironed out. Little question for ya... where do you get those avatars at? They're cool!

The avatar i have arranged it my self using graphic programs.
The actual gif image was little different it had no name and the dvd /cd spin was slower.

This is what I do and it works great. Have been doing this for years on all of my DVD creations.

For 16:9 widescreen DVD-9 movies

DVDDecrypter (file mode or ifo mode)
DVD2AVI (dvd to avi format)
TMPGEnc Plus (avi to mpeg2 & compress and clip frame option)
Ifo Edit (mpeg2 format to DVD format
burn

For 4:3 full screen and 1.85:1 widescreen DVD-9 movies

DVDDecrypter (ripping)
DVD Shrink (compressing, create ISO image)
DVDDecrypter (burn ISO image)

This will give you the same quality as the origional source DVD movies.

If you want to go one step down and use TMPGEnc basic (mpeg1) compression then all the software is freeware.

TMPGE Plus is the only software that is shareware.

Frame clip in TMPGEnc will remove those BLACK NORTH AND SOUTH BORDERS.

Hard to believe that converting to .AVI and then back to MPEG-2 will yield "the same quality" as the original DVD...

I'm going to "copy and paste" your post and give what it says, a shot. Below is the software that I already have. Please let me know if I need anything else:

Dr. DivX
DVD Decrypter ver. 3.1.9
Nero 6.3.0.3

If there's any additional software I need, please let me know!

Question for ya'... What file system are you running?

softwares..."Premiere" and "Encore DVD".

Better AVS to AVI this kind of thing is not supported in TMPGenc.

Yes, you need to upgrade to the latest software DVD Shrink which is 3.1.7.6 and the latest DVDDecrypter which is 3.2.1.0.

I have two computers this procedure works well on both computers. Do the normal computer clean-up before you start, like defrag, reboot, remove unused cookies, remove temp files, standard clean-up.

One computer is running ME operating system and the associated file system (fat32) and the other computer is running XP operating system with the associated file system (ntfs)

If you have more than one computer, choose the computer with the most resource power, this will make the encoding process time frame shorter.

Also, make sure you have the latest issue of TMPGEnc Plus or TMPGEnc Basic and that your NERO burning software is up to date and working properly.

Also, make sure your DVD-RW burner Plextor 708A has the latest firmware installed version 1.04

Well I just did a total clean install with xp, before doing so I wiped the drive because I was running the fat32 and installed on the ntfs system. I'm running on an 80 gig drive with about 90% free. I'm going to work on your instructions in relation to the DVD back up procedure, hoping I'll get the same results as you did.
