avi, divx and problems. Help me!

I recently downloaded an .avi with 'divx' in the title (not the filename)and tried to play it- it opened on windows media player like any other avi, and it was just..... green. I don't know if I don't have the proper stuff (plugins, whatever)to play it with or if it's corrupted. what do I need and where can I get it. I want this file!

to get most used last necessary codecs follow this installation:

1) download microsoft codec update (www.microsoft.com and search in the download sec for codec) and install it

2) get divx 3.11 alpha and install

3) get divx 4.12 bundle (with the playa - plays avi synchronised in most cases) and install, when asked if 3xx videos also watched with 4.12 say no

4) get radium mp3 codec and install

be careful if u install this codec packages of nimo or tsunami, i ve got some nice probs with tsunamis.
