Convert WMV9 to MPEG

Hi, I am trying to convert clips which I have downloaded from the internet into MPEG files, I am using TMPGENC 2.521 and the files are WMV9, when I try I get a message saying "can not open or unsupported" I have the codec installed, the files play in Windows Media and open in Movie Maker but I can't play them with Winamp. Could anyone give me some pointers on how to convert them.

Maybe they're DRM-protected. Generally, if a non-MS media player can play wmv files, then TMPGEnc should be able to convert them.

I figured that may be the case, is there any way to get around this one yet?
