    Sound is out of sync

I have this DVDrip, you see, but there's a slight problem. No matter which media player I use, the sound starts too early, thus causing the video to be out of sync. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks.

You could first try the "Quick" method in Virtual Dub. Hit CTRL - R to display Framerate options, and under the first section of the dialog box, select the radio button "Change so video and audio durations match". If that does not work, you will have to manually adjust it. Also, make sure both video and audio are set to "Direct Stream Copy".

Um, someone suggested that I extract the audio and then reencode it and put it back in the AVI. How exactly do I do that?

In Virtual Dub (or any of the variant programs of Virtual Dub), make sure both video and audio are set to "Direct Stream Copy" then go to "Streams"> "Streams list" and click the "Demux" button. Save your audio stream with a filename of your choice.
