    Am I the only one?

This is another one post about freezing.
The only difference is it hasn't anything to do with codecs but with the ****ing nVidia itself:
I used to be a happy .avi viewer till 1.5-2 years ago. I used to check very frequently about updated drivers for everything in my PC (official releases only) and install them as well. The same was with the codecs: at first it was the single divx codecs, then the packs, then the ffdshow, then the ac3 filters and last the xvid thing. Somewhere between them it was also the DirectVobSub (because of the subtitles). The same was with DirectX 9.0, the Windows Media Player and last the WMP Classic.
About a year ago (or more - I don't remember exactly), the freezer came to my pc also. At first he was afraid and he was touching my .avis rarely. As time passed, he wasn't afraid anymore and he made "I'll not let you see a single movie" the purpose of his life.
At the beginning I thought that the freezer was Xvid itself because it was beta at these times and I thought that things would better in the future. Things actually went worse during time and I started searching more.
I unistalled ffdshow and let the xvid codec and the vobsub: the same.
I unistalled the vobsub and let the ffdshow handle the subtitles: tha same.
I unistalled vobsub and let the xvid alone: everything was fine! (but with no subtitles).
I installed wmp classic and started viewing the .avis in renderless mode in order to use the wmp's ability to display subtitles: everything was fine! (but with not so good control on brightness because it seems that when something is displayed in overlay, it's far better).
The months passed with experiments and freezing. I tried newer versions of ffdshow, with no luck.

Then, one day I remembered the factor nVidia: I started rolling back drivers untill I reached the 40.72. Guess what? I have these drivers installed for the last two months, vobsub running, wmp classic playing in "system default" DirectShow Video, and the ****ing freezer has left my pc.
If you read nVidia's release notes for its drivers, you'll see that one of the release 40 enhancements was DirectX 9 support and some other stuff (but the say: "...release 40 version 42.51 and later provides support for DirectX 9...").

Why am I writting all these?
Because in whatever pc (and believe me, they are a lot of them) I have tested the freezing configuration I CAN make it freeze with the EXEPTION of the pc's that have a Radeon card inside.

**** you very much nVidia for your nice drivers, now I know what my next card will be. I don't know if nVidia makes it right and Radeon makes it wrong but what I DO care is that if a connect my Radeon laptop on my monitor I can watch a full movie with the freezer away. If I start viewing it via my nvidia pc, bye - bye.

    -Yes, I have Gspot.
-Yes, I now what is going on with the codecs in my pc.
-Yes, I know how to fully uninstall them, even from the registry (thanks Gspot author for the info )
-Yes, this post comes in answer to many other freezing complaining ones that I read in these forums and especially to the guy who said that he had to lower the hardware acceleration (it was one of the tests I had made but didn't last long).

Thanx for reading. If you have freezing problems why don't you try downgrade your drivers to 40.72? I really would like to hear your input on this.

My pc is a MSI mainboard with Athlon XP1600+, 512 Megs, full of pci cards and one ****ing GeForce4 Ti 4600.

You, and thousands of others, are just slightly peeved at MS, usually about WMP9, DX9b, or something to do with video.
    Unjustified in this case.
I also ran through fire, jumped through hoops, and many other miscellaneous types of voodoo to get .avi to simply work.
Welcome my new Nvidia drivers, update, update again, still no joy.
Finally went back to the same version you mention, and no more problems. WHQL or not, I'm sticking with the "if it works, don't **** with it" theory for now.
