Trouble playing a Downloaded MPEG movie burnt to DVD

It plays okay on my pc's winDVD etc so I burnt it to DVD using NERO VisionExpress and when it came to playing the actual DVD on my PC or DVD player it got part way through playing and the picture just froze and the sound continued for another 40 minutes then it carried on playing as it should, So I had sound but not the correct picture..why is this happening?

No, it's not - BUT making a backup copy of a commercial DVD that you PURCHASED and OWN is (In most countries)...
