xvid movie crashes every time i try and play it!!

Every time I try and open this movie, no matter which player I use, the player crashes. I tried to use virtualdub to extract the audio so that I could try to convert it to mpg and I get this error message "no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format". After that I figured I’d just encode it without the audio and it converted to mpg and played fine. So I guess I need to find out how to extract the audio. I used gspot and it told me that I have all the right codecs to play the file but could it be wrong? Could it be a codec problem? I normally don’t have problems like this when it comes to playing files. Does anyone have some thoughts or suggestions on the matter?

I am thinking the audio in your xvid file may be in AC3 format... try downloading & installing "ac3filter"...

if that does not solve the problem, download the latest "ffdshow" codec (alpha version)

    ac3filter: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/a...b.exe?download

    ffdshow: http://divx-digest.com/software/ffdshow.html

    good luck
