    Problem with subtitles

    Hi,

I recently tried to add subtitles to my DivX movies. I tried several different programs to create and read subtitle files but no success yet. I installed the vobsub add-in for media player (how can I control if the add-in is active?).

Creating an .srt file with SubRip works fine. But windows media player wants a .sub ending. So I just changed the ending, put it together with the .avi movie file in a folder and opened both files with media player. No subtitle...

So I started wit MicroDVD. I converted the .srt file to a MicroDVD .txt file. I used two different ways to do this: the MicroDVD subtitle converter and the SubConvert program. As I have no experience in this I followed this guide http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/subtitles.htm
There I was told that I need an ini-file. Copying and modifying the example file (as told in the guide) I created an .ini file which looked like this:

    [Micro DVD Ini File] [MAIN] Title=Adaptation ID=12345678 Delay=1 [MOVIE] Directory=. AVIName=adaptation.avi [SUBTITLES] Directory=. Format=0 Lines=2 EstimateDisplayDuration=0 1=ESP Spanish File=adaptation.sub

When I drag and drop the .avi file, the subtitle .txt file and the .ini file to MicroDVD-player I get the message that the ini-file does not work because an ID is missing (Line 1).
So I tried the MicroDVD ini-editor wizzard. But got stuck on the second page when I had to put the name of the avi file. But neither typing nor browsing worked...

    ight the MicroDVD-player be damaged?

It cannot be so complicated to get this going, can it? I like windows media player and would prefer to play my DivX with this, but would be willing to use any other players if I can display the subtitles.

Can anybody tell me what I do wrong? How can I produce working subtitles and display them. And how can I produce CDs on which the subtitle is included and works, and how can I display those?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Greetings,
    Fossi
