... Canopus raw DV is type 1 - unless I am mistaken? My system is XP Home, 2.4GHz P4, 1Gb memory, 80Gb USB partition (external drive) for storing the large 12.5Gb/hr DV files. I use Win Movie Maker to capture firewire raw DV - and then convert using TMPGEnc - to MPEG1 (at least I did until all of a sudden - TMPGEnc decided that the DV type was illegal)!
Pinnacle Studio 8SE is able to capture direct to MPEG2 - but mine stutters and starts, and when the DV is rendered into MPEG2 - it is also very jumpy - almost like a freeze-frame movie!
How do I find what DV-type is best for TMPGEnc? Or even VirtualDub (also dislikes DV type 1). And why is my Pinnacle so ill-at-ease with what it claims it is perfectly able to handle?
Scenalyzer captures raw data almost OK - odd artefacts at the sides of moving objects - but encoding into MPEG-1 leaves it very unsatisfactory, particularly during movement scenes.
MainConcept seems to be the answer ... but are there no worthy interim solutions?
