Can't pass AC3 streams through my SPDIF port

I have this DivX movie with AC3 encoded sound streams that i want to watch in 5.1 mode.
I'm using the onboard soundcard (soundmax) on my Asus P4P800 Dlx mobo.
I've taken the signal from the SPDIF port on the mobo and connected it to the "coax in" input on my Sony str-de695 receiver.
In AC3Filter I've enabled SPDIF AC3 Passthrough.
Now, when i play the .avi file in PowerDVD5 the receiver tells me that it's only receiving signal from the FR and FL channels.
In PowerDVD prefs. i cannot select "Use SPDIF" in audio-out options. But if i'm playing a DVD i can.
Now, the question is how i can feed the unencoded AC3 stream from the file into my receiver. Apparently it is being decoded before it hits the receiver as it is now..
