Tool for converting DVD (VOB) to DV AVI

Hi,
I'm looking for a freeware tool that has a nice user interface to convert DVD (VOB) files to DV (preferably AVI) for editing and output to DV tapes.

Any suggestions?

I too m interested to know if there is a simple tool that converts directly from (already ripped to HD) VOB to DV-AVI. Can anyone recommend one?

Can i also use "VirtualDubMod" te combine an AVI file (encoded from VOB to AVI with VirtualDubMod") with a subtitle-file?

Or is there another program for this?
