avi movie, codex

Hi there,
I currently use divx for all my movie downloads. however i have downloaded one movie and divx does not recognise it it is avi format. Therefore how do i find out what codex i need?

PS i have also tired windows media player and Irfanview to try and watch the film and they dont work either.

D/l and install Avicodec (free). Load the avi and Avicodec will tell you the needed codec/s and if they are installed on your system.
