Video wont work in anything beside winamp, tried ffsdshow, gspot screen shot included

i believe the problem is solely with avi files, they work fine in winamp but wont play video in divx or windows media player. (sound works fine in all players.) which would be fine but winamp doesnt run very well on my computer.

downloaded ffsdshow and install it, didnt seem to have any effect, i didnt check all the boxes though, i left them all on default. should i check all the boxes on ffdshow instal and try again?

heres my gspot screen shot, (the attatched file) not really sure what any of this means. im familiar with computers but this is only the second avi file iv tried to view...the first was off of irc and it seemed to work really easily where as this specific file im attempting to play is off of a less reliable source and i just dont understand the problem.

(ps, to the admin, sorry about my last post. i should have the read the rules a little more carfully. i hope this post is sufficently appropriate)

ok so im checking out the plugins for winamp, i believe the plugin that enables the playback of avi files in winamp to be called Nullsoft DirectShow Decoder v0.92 (in_dshow.dll)

So what i think i need, is some sort of global directshow decoder that i can put in my system32 folder that will enable all my players to playback avi. or maybe some sort of stand alone directshow decoder player...if one exists, does anyone have any input on this thought or am i just completely on the wrong track?

also, iv downloaded both the pro and the free version of divx player with the codec in it i believe...whenever i load a avi file into divx player something new happens. instead of solely playing sound, it just plays the first half a second or so of sound on repeat with a blank screen, and while this happens my computer just dies. processor power goes to 100% and when i move my mouse the cursor has a massive delay, such a delay im not even capable of closing divx because it would ltierally take about 20 minutes just to direct the cursor towards the X on the divx player so i just kill the power.

what this could mean i have no earthly idea....any input on these 2 subjects would be spectacularly appreciated.

Your screenshot indicates that the filename of the AVI is "Spiderman 2". Is this a downloaded file?

well in my investigation of directshow, the first thing that comes up is directx from microsoft, tried downloading and installing it but alas it seems to have no effect on my problem...still trying to figure out what it is in that directshow plugin in winamp that allows avi playback.
