    ffdshow vs divx pro

well my question is simply trying to get the best quality.. I have compared ffdshow and divx pro on some compressed hdtv episodes I downloaded (350mb for 42 minutes). When played with divx pro (in media player classic) the video looks absolutely unbelievable, looks like tv. But when I install ffdshow to handle that filter (in media player classic) it doesn't seem to look as good. Maybe it's just the film effect in divx that make's it "appear" better??

So, what are some good settings in ffdshow to improve the quality? I get really lost when messing with the settings in it and always have to reset defaults because of making it worse... I really like ffdshow but divx pro is just giving me better quality.

Ffdshow has also a "film effect" option, its called -> Noise...

If the source looks blocky, enable -> PostProcessing !!!

And if ya CPU is strong enough, use this...

    Blur&NR / Denoise3D (luma=0, chroma=0, time=5, HQ=On)

EDIT: woops sorry didn't mean for the screenshot to loose so much quality, had to edit the picture to edit out IM

Hmm, if its a good quality HDTV source, you shouldnt need PP !?!

        But, ok...

Enable Automatic quality control @ the PostProcessing !!!

        For noise I like...

        Mplayer noise / Uniform / Luminance 15-25 / Chroma 5-10

And as I said before, if ya have a strong CPU, use...

        Blur&NR / Denoise3D (luma=0, chroma=0, time=5, HQ=On)

But this you have to use before PP and noise...

honestly, i do not see any differences post-processing can make to a video... so i just let ffdshow decode my divx/xvids, as it uses least cpu power. It is useful, however, if the video is low bitrate, and/or has noise

"Hmm, if its a good quality HDTV source, you shouldnt need PP !?!"

          so very true...
