Help playing a movie that uses DivX

Ok I am in the Navy and we are trying to use DivX to compress movies (used for trouble shooting problems via distance support). My problem is I can compress the movie but it will not play on the ships when we send it to them. My question is what exact file do they need on the computer to play the movie in windows media player?

    Thanks for the help

The same DivX codec that was used to create the DivX-compressed .AVI file or, possibly, the FFDShow filter...

Is there a specific file that is needed? We are sending this stuff via satelite and need to keep file size as small as possible. Sending the entire Divx stuff I have would not work. We are using Divx 5.1 and hoping I can just send one or two small files along with it.

      Thanks for the help

You can get the divx lite codec at www.videohelp.com in the tools section.

in my opinion, xvid would be much better suited for the job... it's much faster, its free, and better quality too

to play it on any computer, as setarip said, download "ffdshow", and install it on the computer you want to play it back on

Thanks everyone for the help. FFDshow is what I was looking for.
