    WMP 2 Won't Play Xvid

    Happy Holidays everyone!

    After an exausting search for a solution to an old problem, It is still not solved. Windows' mplayer2.exe will not play xvid avi's properly. I get one video frame, flickering off and on, while the audio plays OK. All my other players do just fine, and play xvid very nicely with the filters of ffdshow.

    I discovered this problem by using AVI preview by A.J. When I use AVI preview to preview .DAT files, I have the same problem. (flickering, wrong colors, no video, etc.)

    After researching a solution, I found this page:

    The problem is, when I get to the part where it says:

    2. If you need ffdshow filter, you might want to try this method. Open a xvid encoded video in Windows Media player 6.4 (only this player gives you access to DirectX filter configurations). By default it is installed with any version of WMP here C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe.
    Then menu: File->Properties->Advanced
    In "Filters in use" find Ffdhow codec and click on Properties. Uncheck "play xvid". Now DirectX will not try to use ffdshow filter to render xvid encoded videos.

    I cannot uncheck a box that says "play xvid" because it is not there. All I get is this interface box which I use everyday and am familar with: Picture attached

    Bottom line is, if I can get mplayer2.exe to play xvid properly, I have a hunch it will solve another problem; AVI preview will not play xvid .DAT files properly.

    I am not providing specific AVI details because it doesn't seem to matter. All that matters is that I have the same problem with avi preview using ANY xvid .DAT files or in the case of mplayer2.exe, any Xvid AVI.

    Any ideas from the gurus ?

    Surely, someone out there has solved this by now!

    Well Hell. I can't believe there has been so many views on this, but no replies. It's the first time that has happened since I joined the forum. What's going on?

    No one has the slightest clue? 'cmon!

      Would someone give me a clue as to why no one answers this thread? I feel like I'm talking to my computer. OK, I AM talking to my computer. Sometimes I even swear at it. It always does what it's told to do, but rarely what I WANT it to do.
