ac3 audio,,what payer?

hi ive got a mpg file but does not play the sound..the audio format is in ac3 can any one tell me which player i need to play this kind of mpg file...

Play it in a DVD player, like PowerDVD or WinDVD.

all failed.i extracted the audio to wav format using virtual dub and then played back the wav file but still no sound...someone suggested that perhaps there was no audio at all but wouldnt virtual dub give me an error message saying no audio to abstract..
this is weird..when played in windows media player it plays the video but then trys to download the codec and then i get error message saying cannot download codec..
anyhelp would be appreciated

You could try downloading and using the codec that enables you to play AC3 track. I'm not sure which it is since I'm not familiar with it. Downloading codec from M$ rarely works anyway (I have no idea whether it's really a codec WMP is downloading or some special bug devised by Billy ^_^)

Here's a suggestion. Open the file in Flask 6 and then choose the extract audio to wav... option. See if you can get any results (It'll be in stereo though). If successful, you can then join the video with the extracted audio for a (finally) smooth playback.

Here some idea's from my side .................. i'm no Pro merely a newbie helper but maybe that is what it takes to tackle your problem

Have you installed a AC3 codec ?????
I think you'll need this to be able to play ac3 sound

Also you said you have extracted the sound with Virtual Dub, but isn't it so that you need a modified version of Virtual Dub to do this (Virtual Dub AC3)

Have you tried extracting the file using Flask anyway?

You have to download the ac3-filter pack. I don't known the URL, so just give google the keywords like ac3 filter playback divx etc.

If you can't find the filters, I could email them to you.
After you have installed the filters I recommend the player "Power DivX" for playback movies with ac3 sound.

Think he did install the ac3 filter, but the problem's still unsolved. Just wait till he replies with feed-back.

By the way, I'm a user of PowerDivX. Love it.
