is it possible i'm missing the correct codec to encode into asf??
i've installed media player 9, WMcodecs 9, and windows encoder 7.Comment

Im trying to do the same thing as r3k1355 only with a gateway dv-s20. Changing the file extension from .wmv to .asf doesn't work. However, if you change the file extension and you rename the file to match the format that the device produces ( in my case something like this: movie.wmv to ASF_0004.ASF) the device playback will present the file in the LCD but what you see is completely unrecognizable. Hitting play will cause the device to seize. The only way to regain control is to diconnect the power. Basically, I'm stuck. I don't know how to proceed. The specs for the device say that it uses mpeg4 sp compression. I've read up some on mpeg4. I know sp mean simple profile. But I just can't figure out how "standards", "codecs", "profiles", "formats", etc. all interrelate. I will eventually understand all this. But for now, I just need a cookbook: Get this software, get this codec, do this, this and this....Comment

OK. So I figured out how to get a wmv file made in Windows movie maker converted and uploaded to my Gateway dv-s20. If the only other person in the whole world who was interested in doing this is still interested contact me through mattrobins.net. I'd be happy to share the wealth.Comment
