File refuses to play.

I am having a problem with just one file I recently downloaded. It is from a trusted site from which I have downloaded many files with no problem at all.
It is supposed to be in XVid format but I usually use a 4CC changer to change it 4CC id to DiVx to get rid of the green pixellation issue.

This one file just refuses to play.

My PC runs Win XP Home SP2.
My video card is an Asus GeForce 4 Ti4200 with 128 MB RAM
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with 384 MB RAM

DiVx Player v.2.5.1: Failed to Open file. Please check that it is a valid avi or mpeg4 file

Windows Media Player 10 v. 10.00.00.3646 : Error C00D1199: Cannot play the file

VirtualDub 1.4.10: Cannot determine file type

GSpot: File type, MIME type: unknown; Rendering failed. Error reported by Direct Show: 0x80040265: Cannot play back the file. the format is not supported.

DivFix: This is not an AVI file

Can somebody point me in the right direction. Sorry for the lengthy post!

Thanks a lot
Cheers

Please do not refer to pirated contents (including software/movies/music ...) - posting messages about movies you downloaded off Kazza or some other illegal means will not help you, and may get you into trouble with the authorities. Sorry..but

Sorry forgive me the newbie but i thought my post may conform to the rules

"..The following posts are acceptable, and should be posted in their respective forums (eg. DivX - Encoding) :

If you only mention a video file (eg. "I downloaded an AVI file from Kazza" or "I downloaded a movie file from Kazza").

If you don't mention where you got the movie from (eg. "I have a movie and I want to burn it as a VCD")...."

Sounds like, at best, you have a corrupted file - and, at worst, a fake file.

When downloading the work efforts of others, you sometimes "get what you pay for"...

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

I tried with nandub as well as VirtualDub
It does not even load the file saying that it cannot determine file type

Probably corrupt file u think?

Hopefully, just corrupt. I'd try a spyware and virus check though
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

"Probably corrupt file u think?"

Try running a utility called "AviFIXP" on the file. Click the "Rebuild Index" button.

"Probably corrupt file u think?"

If you're sure it was an XviD file you downloaded, it's either corrupt or a fake...
