distorted audio

the video playback is fine, but the audio playback is distorted. at first, there was no audio playback at all. i then downloaded the divx311alpha codec (i thin i had a newer version at first). after that there was audio playback but it was of poor quality. i then tried to download different codec packs (like tsunami and nimo), but it didnt help. the virtualdub program indicates that im using the "divx wma audio compressor" codec. i dont know what to do. help!

The audio probably is already at a bad quality. Check it using WMP6.4. File -> Advanced and look around.
