    Flask question

    Hi,

    I've looked through a bunch of guides on Flask and converting with Flask, and haven't found an answer to this, but I'm hoping someone here can help.

    I do songvids, so my conversion problem is a bit different than the typical in that quality is my highest priority. I have a Matrox RealTime card with Adobe Premiere, but for vids that come from a single source (like movies), I've recently been ripping the DVD and then converting the .vob to an .avi (with the Matrox codec) using DVD Decrypter and Flask.

    My problem is that with cinemascope source (2.35 to 1 aspect ratio) the converted video is no longer in scope, but in anamorphic. The video is slightly stretched -- not horribly -- but it's stretched. It is still letterboxed but not as much as if the source were 2.35 to 1. (If you'd like to see an example, email me and I'll send you an address to download one of my vids.)

    I'd like to keep the video in 2.35 to 1 if at all possible -- I do not want to cut off the sides, go full frame, or eliminate the letterboxing. I am sure there is some way to fix this in Flask, but I don't know how. I have the Frame Size (under Video Options) to 720x480, because this is the default Matrox size. Is that wrong, or is there something else I should be doing to keep the video in the original aspect ratio?

    I really appreciate any help.

    Thanks so much,
    Melina

    You probably will benefit from reading the documentation at:

      Yes, I've looked there, and also at the guides that mention Flask here, at dvdrhelp.com, and at Nicky's Guides. I am still not finding an answer to my specific question -- what settings to use to output 2.35 aspect ratio source at the same aspect ratio.

      Most of the guides deal with converting for DiVx and use different frame sizes to save space, but that's not what I'm looking for here.

        It's been quite some time since I worked with FlaskMPEG but, if I remember correctly, the key to your problem is under the "Post Processing" tab of the "Global Project Options":

        Put a checkmark next to "Keep aspect ratio" as well as "No crop" and "No letterboxing", while listing the "Framesize" as 720x480 under the "Video" tab...

        Let us know of your success ;>}
