Some of the streams in unsupported format - how 2 fix???

I have an avi file that when I play it back has no sound. I downloaded "GSpot" to check the sound codec, and it says I do have the correct sound codec installed. However, when I try and render the file (in GSpot) it is unable to fully render it. It says:

Directshow partially succeeded to play file. The actual text of the error or warning is 0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER - Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format. The following combination of filters were used:

    AVI Splitter (Video Splitter)
    DivX Decoder Filter (Video Decoder)
    Video Renderer (Video Renderer)

Does anyone know how I can fix this avi file so it has sound?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

        "Compression: Unknown (tag 2000)"

This is indicative of an .AC3 audiostream.

Download and install an .AC3 codec or filter.

You can get one by clicking on this link:

              Hi setarip and all,

I am having almost the same problem as our friend described above (but video, instead audio is my problem): I have an avi file that when I play it back in virtualdub (v. 1.6.11) has a terrible video quality, with colored columns along it (if necessary I can send the captured screen-only tell me how to do it). The audio is ok. As our friend did, I also downloaded "GSpot" to check the video codec, and it says I do have the correct video codec installed. When I render the file (in GSpot) it is unable to fully render it. It says:

Directshow partially succeeded to play file. The actual text of the error or warning is 0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER - Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format. The following combination of filters were used:

              AVI Splitter (Audio Splitter)
              MPEG-Layer-3 Decoder (Audio Decoder)
              Default DirectSound Device (Audio Renderer)

              <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Below, the file information from VirtualDub:

              Video stream
              Frame size: 162x220, 25.000 fps (40000 us)

              Min/av/max/total key frame size: 476/4207/22741 (5737k)
              Min/av/max/total delta frame size: 0/749/17913 (97652k)
              Data rate: 157kbps (2.97% overhead)

              Audio stream
              Sampling rate: 48000hz
              Channels: 2(stereo)
              Sample precision: n/a

either download & install the latest 'ffdshow' (recommended) or download the divx 6 codec http://www.divx.com

                  Hi,

I´ve already downloaded and installed divx5 player which contains divx6 codec but VirtualDub is still showing the video image with errors.

I have also installed FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder (version: 2005-12-08), but when I open the avi in VirtualDub the image is still bad.

Should I have to configurate anything in VirtualDub in order to watch this avi with the same quality as I see it in DivX player? Or do you suggest any other alternative?

                  Thank you.

                  Paulo.

so this problem is limited to virtualdub? why would you want to watch it with that?

About my post above, after installing FFDShow and divx6 codec, do I have to make changes in VirtualDub to put these codecs in the avi and after choose the option "Save as AVI"? If it is necessary, please let me know the step by step, because only installing the codecs (divx6 and FFDShow) don´t make the avi video plays ok in VirtualDub. Thank you.

                        Hi,

I´m using VirtualDub because I want to add subtitlers (.SSA) to my video. Just for it.

P.S. How can I post a screencap in the forum?

                        Paulo.

seeing as it actually works on other players, it very well could be a problem with vdub's decoding. have you tried adding the subtitles in anyway? how does the output file look?

                            Hi,

I am also thinking that the problem is with vdub's decoding... I didn't try to add the subtitles in other away (in other software for example - if you have any suggestion of a good software that does it...). In virtualdub I can't add the subtitles because I can't even watch the image itself! (it's very bad quality-see the screens that I attached below)

The AVI that I open in VirtualDub:

the only thing i can find out of the ordinary from vdub's file information is that the resolution is not supported by the divx codec. its 162x220. the width must be a multiple of 4, and at 162 it doesn't conform. change it to either 160 or 164. the height must be a multiple of 2, which is fine.

fpaulojr, why can't you just add the subs in vdub anyway? try it!
