I have this xvid video, Windows media player trys DLing a codec for it, but fails. Dvix player wont play it because it says it has an unknown audio format, both will play it, but with no sound, But my VdubMod will play it just fine, video and audio, I have tryed fixing it by using the direct stream option and making a new AVI file, but I get the same thing, Tmpeg also cant detect an audio source. Even tryed sonic my DVD and making it into a mpg and avi file, still no luck. But like I said, vdub plays the audio just fine and the video, I watched the log as it played and everything seems to be fine, other hen it says it has an unknown audio format. Is there anyways I can re-encode it to dvix with a mpeg 3 layer audio stream? Or any suggestions would be great.

it is quite likely that your xvid file has either ac3 or ogg audio.
1. download & install "ac3filter", then try playing your file. if you still cannot hear sound,
2. download & install "ogg ds filters" and try playing your file
if you still do not get audio, open the file in virtualdubmod, click "file" then "file information". post here all info that you see in the window that pops up.
all software mentioned above is completely free and can be found with a google search
