weird movie behaviour

Hi everyone,
Need some help here. I have an mpg (or avi, can't really remember, and I can't check now cuz @ work) movie that is about 20 mb in size and running time is about 9.5 minutes. When I play it inMedia player, the sliding track marker that tells you how much of the movie has elapsed only goes to 4 minutes.

What I mean is, it will move as the movie plays until it reaches the physical end in the media player (right around 4 minutes) and then stay there and the movie which is about 9 minutes long, will keep playing until the actual end of the movie.

Anybody seen this before or know what I'm talking about?

Is there such a thing as an index file or something to that effect that might be screwed up in the movie? Can it be reset or possibly fixed?

if is an avi file, try divfix: http://divfix.maxeline.com

if its an mpg file, you may have to re-encode it with "virtualdubmod"

i have seen this, and have in my experience found it due to a damaged file.

divfix may work as outlined already by anonymez...

Use Gspot or avicodec and you will see the info for the video.
if it is avi I would try divx or run it thru virtualdub, as stated above
if it is mpeg 1/2 I use Mainconcept or you could use Tmpgenc

good point tigerman8u, i also have seen files corrected after jamming them through virtualdub.
