On playing second video, it plays in slow motion

Wonder if anyone can sort my problem.

When I play a video, xvid, divx etc, my machine plays it fine. But when I try to play a second file, it starts of ok but then the video goes into slow motion while the audio is ok. This happens whether I play from cd/dvd or from the hard drive.

If I reboot, all is ok again until I try to play that second file.

All players do this including WMP,Divx and Creative player which I use as default because of remote control , with exception of VLC player which will happily play files all day.

System specs are AMD2500XP Barton, 512k RAM, MSI KT400 m/b, Windows XP Pro.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

vlc uses it's own codecs. Do you have the newest version of divx/xvid installed ?

      Thanks for your reply tigerman8u,

Yes I do have the latest version 1.03.00 I believe. I have even tried re-installing it to no avail.

It is something that is specific to this machine in some way as it always does it, even after a reformat. Just wonder if it could be anything to do with mainboard drivers or something but it does point to a codec issue somehow or it would still cause a problem with VLC if it was otherwise.

Who knows, it just bugs me having to reboot all the time.

      Anybody any ideas?

          Thanks for your reply anonymez,

Can't but thank you enough, this solution works for me. I have fought with this problem for more than a year now to no avail.

The problem still exists with the creative media player but I can live with that ok, no hardship.

          Many thanks to you again.
