    Problem with wmv files

    Hello i got a big problem i downloaded about 10 wmv video files from limewire and they were working fine the day i downloaded them and suddenly the next day i turned on the computer and none of the wmv files worked i tried on every good player i could think of like Winamp, Real Player, Divx Player, BsPlayer and some more but when i open the file in winamp and real player it shows the name of the file and never plays it can anybody tell me what to do i Have winXp with 256 mb ram prosavage graphics card can anybody tell me what to please its driving me mad and now when i downloading a file from lime wire and want to preview it while downloading nothing happens it stays same just show the name and never play and in divx and bs player it shows some kind of error so can anybody please help me.

    well you can never trust files on p2p file sharing. who knows what else you downloaded with those 10 wmv's.

    since you have xp, my next step would be to do a virus scan and possibly a system restore....

          Sounds like you downloaded a virus together with the WMV files.

          Can you play OTHER video files like avis, mpegs?

            Like Columbo suggested, scan for viruses and system restore after that. If you still have problems, try reinstalling the Windows Media codec, which can be found on Microsoft's website.
