Divx audio out of sync. help!

Does someone know how to tune the audio so that I can sync it. I have this movie I've been watching but the audio is played a little bit too late. File properties says it's MPEG 3 layer audio. I don't think the ac3 codec is in use with this file (if you don't know what this sentence means try to help anyways). The divx bundle probably has some own audio codec too? Help!

It's actually in xvid file, but I got the free divx6 bundle and it plays xvid smoothly.

If you have multiple suggestion, please give em all. Thanks.

    A) If the difference between audio and video is constant throughout the video:

Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio" (VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list") to "Direct Stream Copy".
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving" (For VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select "Interleaving")
Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of milleseconds positive in the box labelled "Delay audio track by"
    Save with a new filename

    B) If the difference increases as the movie plays:

From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Framerate" - and select "Change so video and audio durations match"
    Save with a new filename

keep in mind 1000 milliseconds is 1 sec, so use this as an idea of what value to enter....i find a lot of times 300 seems to be the magic #

      A bunch of followup questions...

I tried to install NanDub but it said (readme.doc) that I need to install divx 3.11 alpha to use it. I already got divx 6 installed. Is this a problem? What if the movie has been encoded with for example 5.xx? Can I still use Nandub or is it only compatible with divx 3.11 alpha and earlier verions? This video editing is surely complicated stuff...

newer versions of divx will play older versions. divx 3.1 is supposedly a hacked version of wmv. I have both on my system for testing purposes.
