Burn an play DVD-RAM discs

I'm new on DVD_RAM.. I have a Panasonic E50 DVD-recorder , it uses DVD-RAM disks.
I just bought an LG-4163B DVD-Ram compatible recorder in my PC..

When I copy a ripped DVD ( or burn a new ripped DVD ) on to DVD-RAM.. my DVD-Recorder doesn't play it... instead it says " not formatted correctly , Format ? "

on my PC the DVD playbacks correctly !!!

What can be the problem ???

Can someone help me ?

What program were you using to record onto DVD-RAM?

The "format" message appears when a DVD isn't formatted in the Panasonic unit. The Panasonic views a PC-formatted DVD-RAM as a "foreign format." Is it possible that you formatted your DVD-RAM in the PC before recording onto it? If that's the case, it will be compatible on the PC but not, from Panasonic's viewpoint, on your standalone.

DVD RAM is a format which uses random access on the disk (like a floppy or hard drive) to store the data. DVD players expect the data to be stored sequentially and will not play DVD RAM disks. Sorry. Buy a DVD-RW instead (if your player supports it).

want2b, you have the same writer as me, so here's my advice: forget about dvd-ram. just do what blutach said, and buy a dvd-rw instead

I, too, have a 4163B (upgraded from a 4081B) and couldn't be happier. Burns those Verbatims DL no trubbles

The only time you should be using DVD-RAM in your recorder is for recording on the unit (and then in your PC for transferring video from the recorder). As others have suggested, use DVD-RW for burning DVD video, although it should only be done for testing purposes; use DVD-R or DVD+R for final copies. I use RW discs in my Panasonic E85 (and other players I've had over the last couple years) and have never had a problem with them.

Dvd Ram

I have the opposite problem. I have recorded a film (movie) onto a DVD RAM with my Panasonic recorder and want to play the film on my PC.

The PC can see the file but does not recognise it.

I ran into the same problem as ^^^...try opening the file in WMP (the .VRO) file. You have to change the file type in the open dialog box to "all *.*" It's massive (all the video on disc), and doesn't divide the video into chapter or tracks (all strung together), but it does PLAY on the PC! Hope that helps.

EDIT: D'oh...the sound doesn't playback...oh well...

RE-EDIT: Ahh...I downloaded the K-Lite Codec pack, and viola! It works!

The Video you've recorded is in VR mode up to 4 gb in one *.vro file ...

Install UDF Drivers for your OS than you can use the files placed on die DVD-RAM, especially the *.vro file like a *.vob file ... PVAStrumento, for example, can demux it on HDD so you can edit the sound and video stream and join both later or something else. http://www.offeryn.com/

I use DVD-RAM in my Panasonic DMR E-100H for files i like to split serveral times (i had a fat crash or similar after i had 100 files on Pana-HDD and splittet one file three times... that sucks - i had to format and lose all data) or for long captures which i want to cut a the time i want and not at the 15,xx minutes XP Quality/1 GB DVD-Video barriere.

If you have some short videos (or nothing) to edit you can use a DVD-Video like DVD-R or DVD+R.


One thing about the formation of DVD-RAM: i had some factory wrong formatted out of a Tripple DVD-RAM set and formatted them on my pc... after that long proccess (1x speed complete format) it was shown as 'unformat' in my Recorder - i've formatted it with it and could record on it.
