    divx playback minimum requirements

I'm tryng to playback divx files on my older computer. It is about a 9 year old first generation pentium 150 with 32 mb ram running windows 98. I can playback mpeg with no problems but wmv files run slow though. I installed divx 5.21 bundle that I downloaded from divx-digest and tried to play a video first with zoom player, then with WMP and both times my computer froze; I could still move the cursor around but that was it and I had to do a hard reboot. The divx player that installed along with the divx codec crashed when I tried to load it. I unstalled the codec and tried to install ffdshow, the generic 2004 version, and with zoom player I get an "external exception C000001D" and with WMP I get "MPLAYER2 executed an invalid instruction in
    module FFDSHOW.AX at 015f:100661a1."

Should a divx file be able to playback on my old computer?

Thanks. Isn't the information on that page specific to divx 6? It states that among the minimum requirements is windows 2000 or XP. I'm trying to use divx 5.x which I was able to use fine in windows 98 on my other computer.

the chances of getting a decent resolution divx/xvid file running on a p 150 is extremely slim, as it is dependent almost entirely on CPU power. to play mpeg-4 with least possible cpu/resourece usage, stick with ffdshow, and for playing it back, use either "media player classic" or "mplayer"

hell, i could'nt get a 720x400 xvid running on an AMD K6-2 500MHz, and it had 64mb ram...
