lol well you have to run that under safe mode nad my safe mode crashes my computer oddly enough.. part of the reason im not too mad about a clean install

i format quite often, around every 2-3 months, its a breeze .

while you're at it, you should download the latest drivers for your motherboard, graphics card, etc, for extra stability. make sure you have backed up important things, like your internet explorer/firefox favourites, saves for any PC games, etc

if even safe mode ain't working, you should definitely do a clean install, whether videos are working or not

hey anon... i was using that microsoft site with the partitioning info and i could not get a partition to go right now

ive got 20gb free space so thats not the problem..

do you think its because i have it in a raid array?

ok, ive done a windows repair, and i no longer get the directx errors....


im back to where i hear/get audio, but the video screen is blank

if i were to open an avi file in gspot, what codecs should be doing the rendering and in what order... what does yours say anon?

so you didn't do a full format? what graphics card/drivers do you have? if a windows repair didn't fix it, it could very well be a hardware problem...

oks, heres what i did wrong, after the reinstall i messed with this

now while i didnt mess with these settings in media player classic, i did change them in that htpc program i downloaded

what does yours look like anon


as an update, after the reinstall, i started all of the updates.

well service pack 2 messed up and in order to get my comp back in shape microsoft says i have to do a full intall anyhow...

so i guess its square one, but i would still like to know your settings anon so when i have it back to running order i can match up my settings for best performance/most stable

did you do a clean install or a repair?

put them all on 'system default'. it should now use overlay output, which is the most compatible/fastest

hey anon... one more question


i hooked up my wd120gb hd and was going to copy my files over so i can do a full clean install.. the problem i encountered was that the computer started booting from that hd instead of my raid hds

i did not change boot order!! but it still did this

so i tried to change boot order and nothing.... it originally booted from hdd-0, then cdrom

so i tried changing it to hdd-1 to see if that would make a diff and it still booted from the wrong hd again

how can i get the hd(s) to boot?

try changing the 'jumper settings' on the drives to make the raid 'master, with slave', and your wd120 slave. the instruction/diagrams should be on the actual drive, or in the manual, or if you still cannot find them, check the manufacturer's websites...
