    Thumbnails displaying, video not

I was having an issue with all my video players on my PC not displaying video and only sound. I played around with the settings and codecs a bit but now, I'm getting a thumbnail in explorer, but still no video. Only a black screen.

This is with Divx and Xvids.

Anyone got any idea what maybe wrong?

    Thanks,

    Chigs

start over, get rid of all codecs, and start over.

      make sure you have:

      1. the latest directx http://www.microsoft.com

      2. your latest graphics card drivers

      3. uninstall all codec packs

      4. download & install "ffdshow" (september 20 version) from http://www.free-codecs.com

      5. i recommend you play all videos on 'media player classic'

I've unstalled all the codec packs through Add/Remove. Is there any other way of unregistering all the codecs as this did not work?

you can use a program such as 'codec sniper' to remove individual codecs, but make sure you know what you're doing!

did you try playing them with 'media player classic'? then try them with 'VLC (videolan)' player...

Thanks for your help guys. Still no luck. I have uninstalled all the codecs, tried in mplayer2 and vlc. Here are my codecs reported by codec sniper after ffdshow is installed.

my advice is now is to format your hard disk, then re-install just 'ffdshow' and any dvd codec, real alternative and quicktime alternative. that is pretty much all you should have regarding codecs...

'media player classic' is NOT the same as microsoft's mplayer2. get it at http://www.free-codecs.com

this is what too many codecs/codec packs do to your system... it is the best way, in my opinion. feel free to ignore it though, and maybe someone else can help

i agree with anonymez, format the sucker, format the livin crap out of it if your having nothing but problems. i was scared my first time too, but then i realised it wasn't so bad.
