    WinDVD 7 doesn't enable audio center ??

recently, i bought the intervideo windvd 7. the software is simply great. i played the dvd with all the features of 'audio center' enabled. i played the dvd in 4 speakers mode with Dolby Pro Logic II Movie Mode enabled.

i ripped the dvd and encoded it into avi retaining the original dvd audio i.e., ac3 6ch sound. now, i played this avi file in windvd. Surprisingly, the audio center and video center - both are disabled. can anybody tell what's the problem. so, altough i could play the avi file, i couldn't use the extra features of audio/video center like the speaker configuration, theatre effects, etc..

anyone, please tell me what's the problem with windvd. i want to play the avi in windvd 7 with the audio center enabled. pls help !!

it would seem obvious that the problem is not with windvd, rather it is in either the tools or settings you used to encode it.

no, absolutely not. b'coz, it's not just the XviD DVD Rip that's not playing...but any AVI(encoded using any codec) when played in WinDVD doesn't make WinDVD enable the audio/video central features.

Let's leave my case. You guys, check out if WinDVD 7 enables the audio/video central features when an AVI file is played in it.

You might think you encoded it with 5.1ch sound but are you sure? Did you check your encode with g-spot or load it into VirtualDub or any other tools to be sure? You might want to take a look at this thread at doom9.

        Also possibly relevant,
Maybe you should know that the VideoLan Player doesn't include the DTS decoder anymore (it did until 7.2.0). DTS had objections.

fine then. could u pls play an AVI file in WinDVD 6 and try enable the Audio Booster feature available in WinDVD 6. It's analogous to the audio/video center feature in Win DVD 7. try it with any kind of avi file(i mean encoded using any codec --> XviD, DivX, 3ivX etc and having any audio --> ac3, aac, mp3 or wav).

while playing the avi, check out if the Audio Booster Pack is enabled or not. Then, my doubt will be clarified. i hope u got my point.

ok, did the test with windvd 6, and you're right the audio booster panel gets disabled when playing .avi or .wmv, works ok when viewing a .mpg, .mp3, dvd, etc.

thx for u'r response. now, wht do u think should be done to enable audio booster in WInDVD 6 while playing AVI files. The reason for stressing on AVI is that we generally encode DVDs into AVI to reduce file size and play them on PC. Now, if WinDVD disables the most important feature like Audio Booster, then it really seems worthless to encode DVD movies into AVI, coz, the audio/video enhancements cannot be enabled in the AVI version of the movie, although we encode it taking lots of pains.

If that is one side of the issue, then, why isn't WinDVD 6 enabling Audio Booster, likewise why isn't WinDVD 7 isn't enabling audio/video center features --> this is something very strange!

Do you think, the intervideo website should be contacted on this issue. If you think, it is correct to contact them, then pls inform me, I'll also report to them abt this problem.

I checked the WinDVD FAQ & Troubleshooting page and didn't see anything about the problem. They do however mention that this software is required for WinDVD 7:

For WinDVD 7, the following downloads are required:

                    DirectX 9
                    Description: Mandatory
                    OS: Windows 2000, Windows XP

                    Windows Media Format 9
                    Description: Mandatory
                    OS: Windows 2000, Windows XP

                    Windows Media Player 9
Description: Mandatory for Windows Media Support
                    OS: Windows XP

So if you have this software installed and the advanced audio features are important to you during .AVI playback I would suggest that you contact Intervideo customer support. I would expect them to be aware of the issue, and perhaps suggest a way to resolve it.
