    Can't read whole file

    ....
hey guys im having a problem here with an avi file.

    this is the gspot output...
the small caption on the bottom reads how gspot finds several gigs of "garbadge.." while instead its not garbage since i recorded the video myself....

all programs read the file up to 360 something frames.. (around 20 seconds), instead it should last about 1 hour...

what can i do. this file is really important. its from a surveillance camera...

    pls help

    John

How large does your system report the file to be? Can you load the file into a prog eg TMPGEnc or virtualdub ? if so try compressing the file into divx or xvid etc or convert to mpg

system report the file to be what it is 7 gigs more or less... and 324 frames as gspot says..... and ALL programs say the same and read the same...

i think i need some app that would read the file as raw...just the stream and direguard the index file....

none of the apps i've tried converts nor reads fully the file... (including virtualDub)....

Microsoft Windows XP - Size Limitations in NTFS and FAT File Systems

        4,294,967,295 bytes,
        (4GB minus 1 byte or 2^32 minus 1 byte).

The maximum (implemented) file size on a NTFS partition is
        17,592,185,978,880 bytes,
what is your drive formated in? NTFS or FAT32

some surveilance systems only record intermitent frames. How often does this surveilance system record a frame is it at 15 frames per second or a frame every 10 sec ?

virtualdub mod 1.5.10.1 a very versitile tool. also try this
Download AVI Fixed 2.0 b1 : AVI Fixed is a portable application which rebuilds the index of partially downloaded videos.

avi fix claims to be able to rebuild the index and fix play time errors.
Just create a backup of the file first ..
also can you extract the audio ? It would be interesting to see if it runs for an hour if you can extract it.

some more questions on your problem. what player do you use to view the file? when you play the 20 sec's that you can play does the progress bar go to the end? or does it show that you have only progressed a short way?
Some avi's I have found don't play properly if the file is fragmented too many times.
go to defrag click on analyze then view report if the file is fragmented try copying the file to a drive with plenty of unfragmented space .
