    cant play avi file

Sorry if this is not in the correct section, I have downloaded a 695mb avi but i'm not sure if it is divx or xvid. The video file is 128 mins long and as i said before is 695mb in size. When i originally downloaded it i played it in both vlc and wmp, forwarded through it a bit and checked the begining and ends to see if it played ok and the audio was in sync. Everything ok. Played it again and now it won't play - get message this is not a valid avi file. I've tried loads of utilities from videohelp - gspoe, mediainfo, divxfix, videoinspector, progs that can fix corrupted avis etc. None of them will work with the files - not valid avi file, can't load file, etc

Is this file a gonner ? Anything else to try ?

have you tried a re-start or a system restore? have you done anything with codecs on your system?

      re.

When i checked it, it was last thing at night, had a quick look, turned off pc and then when i went back on in the morning the first thing i did was to play it again and thats when i noticed the probelm. Haven't done anything with codecs- may uninstall and reinstall. Thing is there are a few programs that tell you what codec u need for a file - gspot is one - but these won't give any details apart from 'not avalid avi file' also when i use a fourcc code reader/changer it doesn't list the fourcc code which seems odd - just wondering if the header info has got screwed up.

let's try this, get virtualdubmod (free) and load the file. post a screenshot of the file information under FILE>file information.
