    can't play AC3 audio tracks

    hi boys!

i can't play any ac3 audio track in pc using winamp, powerdvd mpclassic, nero showtime and others.
the worse is that my system crash with big blue screen.
surprise: is that i can play dvds or video_ts folders with ac3 audio tracks.
(oh Bill, how can you do that!? )

installed the ac3 filter 1,02a test 8(and olders versions)but nothing is change, the system still crashing as before.

gspot show me "ready(174 codecs loaded)" and this is the list of the audio codecs:
    ....
[edit] removed the big list of codecs from gspot.(is useless now)
    ...
i can't format the hd and miss lots.
    help please!

all i have is the AC3 acm decompressor and the AC3 filter, you must have configuration problems and/or too many codecs. links for them are in this guide

        wooohooo! thank you so much!
working like a charm with mpclassic/ac3 filter!

        as i had ac3 filter installed,was only needed the AC3 ACM Decompressor.(right click-bingo)
...with a bonus: your guide in the link(great)

        @ anonymez
        i will try ffdshow too.
        thank you.

nice to see you got it working

just curious, jeo, did you try playing in media player classic before you installed ac3 acm decompressor?

            mpc has built-in ac3 support...

              yes,
before install AC3 ACM all players was crashing(ac3 audio only).
strange is that before i install AC3 ACM Decompressor, i could play .vobs
in mpclassic(and select each audio tracks) using ac3 filter without problems,
but not any ac3 audio tracks(2.0 or 5.1)
              from first post:

nero showtime still crashing(big blue screen) and in configurations/audio i can change only "audio output".

do you think that ffdshow can be used to put all players working?
              if yes,will be cool!
              thanks.

ffdshow should be able to play ac3 in any player as long as the player in question is not forcing another decoder to do the job

                  for all (09:09AM here)

                  anonymez,
thank you, ffdshow is cool and never had used before.

can i ask here about powerdvd and nero showtime ?(or a new thread?)

powerdvd crash if i only do "right click-configuration" without load anything.
nero showtimes still crashing openning ac3 files.

i uninstall: nero7,powerdvd,ac3 filter,MPClassic2kxp6485 and the drives of my sound card(SB0100-5.1).

then i install again all this programs(new MPClassic2kxp6486)and full S.Blaster audio drives and programs.

MPC6486 is working with vobs or any ac3.
nero showtime still crash with ac3.
powerdvd crashing like before("right click-configuration" without load any file)
gspot don't show audio codecs with problems.

                  anonymez,.....LT. Columbo,
did you saw something like this before?
                  (what Bill is doing?!?)

                  help me please boys,i'm lost.

[edit] i forgot to post: dvdshrink was and still playing ac3 files in the preview(system default renderer or built-in software renderer adjusts)

jeo, do you by any chance have the burning program 'alcohol 120%' installed?

the best solution to your powerdvd/showtime problem IMO is a format and clean install of windows, and ONLY install programs regarding digital video/audio that are in my little list here:

ffdshow - make sure its the latest 'celtic_druid' build, should play almost all video and audio formats

a dvd decoder - of your choice. my choice is definitely 'dscaler'. but you can install any programs (or all of them) such as powerdvd/windvd/showtime

real alternative - so you don't have to install 'realone player'

quicktime alternative - so you don't have to install quicktime

media player classic - extremely stable and fast media player. best player ever.

oggDS filter - directshow filter for ogm/ogg

windows media player 10 - if you wish

if you don't wish to do a clean install, its likely going to be a chore involving many stabs in the dark to finding the source/codec thats causing the problem. MPC works wonderfully, but if you think powerdvd/showtime usage is worth a clean format, go ahead

                        ok.
after a long job of unintall and re-install powerdvd, windvd and nero7,...
i can only play dvds souces on MPC.
i remove this programs, and back to nero6 as LT. Columbo advice in another thread (dvdshrink forum).
the system was so heavy and now,the better idea that i have is use ghost to backup the system after reinstall "eveything".
if needed i do one backup for each new program installed and if or when this problem back,i will recover with ghost. is one "stupid way" to find what program give me this issues but i can't think in something better because i can't find what is crashing the system.

the good part is that now i can play my ac3 tracks and dvds from medias or video_ts folders with MPClassic using ac3 filter.

the very cool part is your help and dedication!
thank you LT. Columbo and anonymez for all recomendations, advices and fellowship.
                        so much!
