after much frustration and waisted time i gave up on converting avi to dvd , and picked up a LG - 531, this is a great dvd player and will play almost everything

good choice if you're willing to get another player
i thought of getting one too a while ago, but instead i built myself a HTPC (home theatre pc) and hooked it up to the tv instead. now my tv can do anything a PC can. more costly than a dvd player though
